Sven graduated from Audiovisual Arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels as a documentary filmmaker and wrote a paper on how to document a piece of live performance art, focusing on the work of the artist Marina Abramovic (°1946, Belgrade). His final documentary film project about her work evolved into an installation, Documentary/Performance, in which he presented evidence of encountering the artist and of performing the student exercises described in her handbook Unfinished Business. The documentary installation involved the use of video on monitors, a sound recording, books, photographs, e-mail correspondence between him and the artist, written testimonies and the score for a new performance which he acted out in the school auditorium.

For his 1st year of Transmedia studies Sven has been conducting further research into the limits of documentary and performance, investigating the work of artists such as Allan Kaprow, On Kawara and Tehching Hsieh, which has been called ‘art as life’. Sven also kept documenting the work of other artists in his practice as a documentary performance artist.
