Marina Gioti is a film/ video maker and freelance curator born in Athens, Greece. She studied Chemical Engineering, Environmental Management (MSc), Filmmaking, and Media & Communication (MA Specializing in Political Communication and New Media) in Athens and Patras, Greece and London, UK.
Her videos and installations have been screened and exhibited worldwide at both international film festivals (Toronto, Transmediale, Jeonju, Cinematexas, Chicago Filmmakers, New York Underground Film Festival, Les Rencontres Internationales, etc) and museums/ visual art platforms [Beursschouwburg (Βrussels), Bielefelder Kunstverein (Bielefeld), CaixaForum (Barcelona), Anthology Film Archives (NYC), Deste Foundation and the Museum of Cycladic Art (Athens)]. Her work appears in the publication ‘Into The Pill vol.1′, a manual for Contemporary Greek video art.
She is also working as an independent film and video curator, programming and organizing experimental film and documentary screenings in Athens and other Greek cities. She has been the artistic director of two film festivals, Synch Cinema and Ecocinema. She has co-curated, the exhibition Anathena, an informal history of Athens’ artistic underground and countercultures, for the prestigious Deste Foundation, in Athens, Greece. She is co-founder of Silence Fiction Society, a group which organizes shows with international experimental music and performance acts, in venues around Athens.
